A 36-year-old woman from Zvishavane has been sentenced to prison after defrauding a Masvingo man of US$3,200 in a fake overseas job placement scheme. Samantha Chiedza Gumbo of Eastlea, Zvishavane, was convicted of fraud by Masvingo Magistrate Caroline Tafira Nyoni after falsely claiming she operated a student and job placement consultancy in Europe.


Fake Zimbabwe Army Recruiter Arrested After Allegedly Charging Job Seekers US$100
A 42-year-old man accused of masquerading as a Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) officer and extorting money from desperate job seekers has been arrested by the Military Police in Harare. The suspect, identified as Hardlife Nyoni, a general hand at Mkoba Teachers College, was apprehended in Harare’s Central Business District on 13 May 2026 following a tip-off from members of the public.


Former SSB Paymaster in Court Over Alleged Payroll Fraud Scheme
A former paymaster with Zimbabwe’s Salary Service Bureau (SSB), which falls under the Public Service Commission (PSC), has appeared in court facing allegations of fraud after allegedly inflating his own salary and those of 26 other employees without authorisation. Brighton Chiuzingo, 59, who reportedly served as a paymaster between 2010 and 2021, was arraigned before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo last week. He was remanded to a later date pending further investigations.
