MASVINGO – A 19-year-old man from Bikita has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Masvingo Regional Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of raping his 73-year-old grandmother in a disturbing case that has shocked the local community. The offender, whose identity has been withheld to protect the victim, appeared before Regional Magistrate Innocent Bepura, who described the crime as particularly heinous given the vulnerability and advanced age of the complainant.

A 31-year-old man from Buhera has died after allegedly drinking an unknown liquid at his in-laws’ home in Bikita following a domestic dispute, police have confirmed. The incident occurred on 27 February at around 6pm in Village 7B under Chief Budzi. The deceased has been identified as Courage Zvoumba of Chief Nyashanu in Buhera. He had reportedly travelled to his wife’s family home in an effort to resolve marital differences.
