Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo has issued a cease-and-desist notice against nephew Kurai Makore, barring him from performing or commercially exploiting Mapfumo's musical works.

Thomas Mapfumo has defended accepting US$1 million to perform at Jah Prayzah's wedding and a private event hosted by Wicknell Chivayo, saying it is payment for his services rather than a gift.

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe has welcomed Thomas Mapfumo's return for performances later this year, describing the Chimurenga legend's homecoming as a major boost for Zimbabwe's arts sector and cultural heritage.
