The Zimbabwe Republic Police have arrested more than 2,000 suspects since launching a nationwide operation targeting serious crime, drug offences and dangerous traffic violations.

MUTARE – A 29-year-old Mutare mushikashika operator has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer at a service station, an incident that was captured on video and widely circulated on social media. The suspect, Brendon Tsakatsa, of Chikanga 1, was arrested in connection with the incident, which police said occurred on 29 June 2026.

HARARE — A 45-year-old man from Chitungwiza allegedly became the victim of a sexual assault and robbery after being lured into a suspected illegal mushikashika taxi while travelling from Harare to Chitungwiza on Sunday, police have confirmed. The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of commuters using unregistered public transport vehicles operating along major routes in Harare and Chitungwiza.

HARARE — In a robust effort to restore traffic order and curb rising criminal activity, police in Harare have intensified their operations against illegal transport operators. Over the past two weeks, law enforcement authorities have impounded more than 200 vehicles in a widespread blitz across the Central Business District (CBD). The operation specifically targets unregistered taxis, locally referred to as “Mushikashika,” which have become a significant source of traffic vio
