The Parliament of Zimbabwe has deployed 11 teams across the country to conduct public hearings on the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment No. 3) Bill, 2026, in a key phase of the country’s legislative process. The four-day exercise, running from 30 March to 2 April 2026, will cover all 64 districts, allowing citizens to directly contribute to proposed constitutional changes that could significantly reshape Zimbabwe’s governance and electoral system.

HARARE – Spencer Tshuma, the Member of Parliament for Gokwe-Kabuyuni, has proposed that all newborn babies in Zimbabwe undergo mandatory DNA testing before birth certificates are issued, arguing that the measure could help resolve paternity disputes and protect family rights. Speaking in the Parliament of Zimbabwe last week, Tshuma said compulsory DNA testing at birth would ensure that children are correctly linked to their biological parents.

This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” highlights the idea that societies thrive when women are given the space, resources and respect necessary to participate fully in national development.

Douglas Mombeshora, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health and Child Care, says the government is strengthening efforts to address deaths caused by snake bites and rabies, particularly in rural, border, and forested areas where the risks remain highest. Responding to questions from legislators in Parliament on Tuesday, Mombeshora said both conditions have been prioritised under the country’s national health strategy because they disproportionately affect rural communities.

The government raised almost US$18 million from the issuance of vehicle number plates between January and June 2025, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona told Parliament.
