Police in Harare have arrested two suspects following a bold daylight armed robbery at a Mukuru outlet in Mabelreign on Saturday afternoon, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed. The ZRP said the suspects, Tanaka Java (42) and Ronald Rupare (28), were detained after fleeing the scene with US$5,631 and ZAR 26,600 in cash. Officers recovered ZAR 10,000 during the arrest operation.


Commissioner Paul Nyathi: “The ZRP confirms the arrest of Tanaka Java (42) and Ronald Rupare (28) in connection with an armed robbery case which occurred on 07/02/26 at around 1230 hours at a Mukuru outlet in Mabelreign, Harare.”

Incident response and arrest details

According to the ZRP, Mabelreign officers responded swiftly after a prompt report and a tip‑off from members of the public. The suspects were pursued and intercepted at a roadblock along Quinton Road, Avondale. One suspect reportedly escaped and remains at large.

Next steps

Police said the arrested suspects will be processed and charged in line with criminal procedure, while investigations continue to locate the remaining suspect and recover the outstanding stolen cash. The ZRP urged anyone with information to come forward to assist with the probe.
