BINDURA – A 32-year-old man from Avoca Farm in Bindura has appeared before the courts facing a domestic violence charge after allegedly seriously assaulting his wife during a dispute over suspected infidelity. Bernard Mutara appeared before a Bindura magistrate following an incident that allegedly occurred on 21 June 2026.
State prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court that Mutara confronted his 42-year-old wife over allegations of infidelity and questions about her whereabouts before the argument turned violent. The State alleges that during the altercation, the accused used a razor blade to inflict serious injuries on the complainant.
According to the prosecution, the complainant was assisted in cleaning herself following the incident before seeking urgent medical treatment. The court heard that she was medically examined, and a medical affidavit documenting her injuries is expected to form part of the State's evidence during the trial. Mutara has been remanded in custody pending further court proceedings. The matter will continue under the provisions of Zimbabwe's Domestic Violence Act, with the court expected to hear additional evidence when the case resumes.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over domestic violence in Zimbabwe, where authorities continue to encourage victims and witnesses to report abuse promptly. Under Zimbabwean law, perpetrators of domestic violence face criminal prosecution, with penalties varying depending on the severity of the offence. Law enforcement agencies and organisations working to combat gender-based violence continue to urge communities to report suspected abuse and seek assistance through the police, health facilities, and victim support services.
