The Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (Bacfoz) has strongly condemned the brutal murder of prominent Bulawayo businessman Noor Hussein, who was allegedly killed during a violent robbery at his home in Kumalo suburb. Hussein, a 67-year-old Pakistani national and respected member of Bulawayo’s business community, was reportedly attacked inside his residence on May 9, 2026. Police say the suspects assaulted him with wooden planks before strangling him with a towel in front of his wife and children. The shocking murder has triggered renewed concerns over violent crime in Zimbabwe, particularly attacks targeting businesspeople and the growing criminal misuse of stun guns and pepper spray devices.

Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe chairperson Ishmael Jassat described the killing as senseless and deeply disturbing.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the murder of Mr Hussein, a Bulawayo businessman who worked very hard to build a name for himself in the business sector,” Jassat said.

He also raised an alarm over the increasing number of violent robberies involving stun guns and pepper sprays.

“We are also worried about the surge in cases of innocent people being attacked by perpetrators using stun guns and pepper sprays,” he said.

Jassat warned that devices originally intended for self-defence are now increasingly being used during robberies and violent attacks. Security experts say organised criminal gangs in Zimbabwe are increasingly using non-lethal incapacitating weapons to overpower victims during home invasions and armed robberies.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest of Kelvin Matambudziko Ndavambi (24) in connection with the murder investigation. National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said Ndavambi allegedly committed the crime with an accomplice identified only as Dhlamini, who remains on the run.

“ZRP has arrested Kelvin Matambudziko Ndavambi (24) for killing his employer, a foreign national, Noor Hussein (67), on 9 May 2026 while trying to rob him and his family in Kumalo suburb, Bulawayo,” Nyathi said.

According to police, the suspects were allegedly armed with pistols and wooden planks during the attack.

“The suspect, who was in the company of an accomplice identified as Dhlamini, went to the businessman’s residence and attacked him during the night while armed with pistols, wooden planks and strangled him with a towel in front of his family,” Nyathi added.

Police said the suspects fled after the attack before family members alerted relatives and authorities. Ndavambi was later arrested in Bulawayo’s central business district while allegedly attempting to board a bus to Harare.

Police have launched a manhunt for the second suspect and are appealing to members of the public for information that may assist investigations. The murder has sparked widespread outrage within Bulawayo’s business sector, with many calling for tougher action against violent criminal syndicates targeting entrepreneurs and foreign investors. Crime analysts warn that rising armed robbery cases could negatively affect investor confidence and business security in Zimbabwe’s urban centres if violent crimes continue escalating.
