CHIPINGE — An 18-year-old woman from Siyekaya Village in Chipinge has died following a domestic dispute, in an incident that has left the local community in shock. The deceased, identified as Tendai Mutisi, was reportedly distressed after a disagreement within her household involving her 23-year-old husband and complex family dynamics.
According to preliminary reports, the couple had previously separated in 2025 before reconciling. Tensions are said to have resurfaced recently following a situation involving the husband and his first wife, which allegedly caused emotional strain. Family members indicated that Mutisi left her room during the night and was later reported missing, prompting an immediate search by relatives. Her body was discovered the following morning in the family garden. Police attended the scene, and the body was transported to Chipinge District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing. Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Wiseman Chinyoka urged members of the public to seek support when facing domestic challenges.
“People experiencing domestic disputes should engage family elders, counsellors or relevant support systems rather than resorting to extreme actions,” he said.
Authorities say the incident highlights the emotional toll that domestic disputes can have, particularly among young couples navigating complex relationships. Social worker Memory Dube said early intervention is critical in preventing such tragedies.
“Many young people struggle to cope with relationship pressures in silence. Access to counselling and open communication within families can make a significant difference,” she said.
Community leaders in the area have also called for increased awareness around conflict resolution and mental health support, especially in rural communities where access to professional services may be limited. As investigations continue, the tragedy has reignited discussions around domestic conflict, emotional well-being, and the need for accessible support systems.
