MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested four suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a string of raids across Triangle, Chiredzi, and Mkwasine between January and mid-April 2026. Police identified the suspects as Collen Gweme (28), Probit Njanjure (24), Gift Chibharo (28), and Farai Tazivarose (59), also known as “Chitichi”.
According to the ZRP, the suspects were apprehended following a tip-off that linked them to multiple armed robbery cases in the Lowveld region.
“The suspects were arrested following a tip-off which linked them to the armed robbery cases,” police said in a statement.
Authorities believe the group had been operating across several districts, targeting homes and businesses in coordinated attacks.
Police said the arrests resulted in the recovery of a wide range of stolen goods, believed to have been taken during the robbery spree.
“The arrests led to the recovery of stolen property, including a Nissan Caravan kombi, assorted groceries, three television sets, solar panels and inverters,” the ZRP said.
Other recovered items include a lithium battery, a submersible pump, 16 mobile phones, three bicycles, and various electrical gadgets. Investigators say the recovered property will be used as evidence in court, while efforts are underway to identify and return items to their rightful owners.
The arrests bring relief to residents in Triangle, Chiredzi, and Mkwasine, who had been grappling with a surge in armed robberies over the past few months. Local community leaders have previously raised concerns over increasing criminal activity, calling for intensified police patrols and community vigilance.
The ZRP has reiterated its commitment to tackling violent crime and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities. Security experts say tip-offs from communities continue to play a critical role in cracking organised crime networks. Police indicated that investigations are ongoing, with the possibility of more arrests as detectives work to establish whether the suspects are linked to additional cases. Authorities have also encouraged victims of robbery incidents in the affected areas to come forward and assist with ongoing investigations.
