The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a public appeal for information leading to the arrest of Hazel Silibaziso Mafu, who is wanted in connection with alleged fraud cases involving more than US$155,000. Police allege that Mafu, the director of Hezy Motors Logistics Private Limited, was involved in a series of vehicle importation deals between 2022 and April 2026 that allegedly left at least 20 complainants out of pocket.

According to police, the company advertised vehicle importation services through social media, electronic platforms, and print publications, presenting itself as capable of sourcing and delivering imported vehicles within agreed timelines and at competitive prices. In a statement issued on 13 May 2026, ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi said authorities are now seeking public assistance to locate the suspect.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Hazel Silibaziso Mafu, who is being sought in connection with several cases of fraud committed between 2022 and April 2026,” Nyathi said.

Police allege that clients were persuaded to pay varying amounts of money for vehicle purchases and importation services after being attracted through extensive advertising campaigns.

“Through these advertisements, the suspect misrepresented that she had the capacity to source and deliver motor vehicles within specified timeframes at competitive prices,” police said.

Authorities claim that after receiving payment from clients, the vehicles were allegedly never delivered.

“Consequently, several Zimbabweans reportedly engaged her and paid varying amounts of money for the purchase and importation of motor vehicles. However, after receiving payment, she allegedly failed to deliver the vehicles.”

Police say 20 complainants have so far filed reports linked to the alleged scheme, with the total reported prejudice currently standing at US$155,211.

Investigators have not yet confirmed whether any recoveries have been made or whether additional complainants are expected to come forward as investigations continue. The ZRP is urging anyone with information that may assist in locating Mafu to report to the nearest police station or contact the National Complaints Desk or the CID Commercial Crimes Division Northern Region.

“Anyone with information which may assist in locating the suspect is urged to report to any nearest police station or contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631, WhatsApp 0712 800 197, or CID Commercial Crimes Division Northern Region on (0242) 703030,” police said.

The case adds to growing concerns over vehicle import scams targeting Zimbabweans through online platforms and social media advertising, with authorities repeatedly warning members of the public to verify businesses before making large payments for imported vehicles.
