Dr Richard Schulze, a famous medical herbalist, is known for his famous saying, “If you master only one herb in your life, ……master cayenne pepper”.He said, “In 35 years of practice, and working with people and teaching, I have never on house calls lost one heart attack patient, and the reason is……. I pour down them a cup of cayenne tea, ….and within minutes they are up and around”. Apart from garlic and cloves, which are part of my mobile life savers, I added a bottle of Cayenne pepper. Why not you too?

Cayenne pepper is thought to be one of the spices that were brought by the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon. Most of us think cayenne pepper hails from the chilli family, but some sources suggest that it’s botanically a type of fruit. Cayenne peppers are typically long and thin, with common ones having a bright red colour. There are also yellow and purple variants.

The precious pepper is said to have originated from a city called Cayenne, French Guiana.

What makes Cayenne pepper so powerful is the compound capsaicin, which offers significant health benefits. We shall delve into these life-transforming health benefits of cayenne pepper.

Key Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper

  1. Blood thinner

Cayenne pepper is the most effective in blood thinning naturally. Cayenne is a super blood stimulant. Aspirin, amongst other conventional blood thinners, causes brain bleeds. Drop aspirin and choose cayenne for thin blood.

  1. Heart’s best friend

Within 30 seconds of a heart attack, as confirmed by Dr. Schulze, cayenne pepper can be a lifesaver. If taken occasionally, it rebuilds and strengthens heart muscles. It also opens capillaries for the powerful flow of blood. Cayenne pepper, therefore, keeps blood pressure in check. It also helps reduce atherosclerosis, encourages fibrinolytic activity, and prevents factors that lead to the formation of blood clots, thereby reducing stroke risk.

  1. Anti-inflammatory

As we age, inflammation can become a major health problem. Cayenne is the best remedy for arthritis and joint pains, even cold feet! It’s most effective when mixed with castor oil and massaged.

  1. Cell regeneration

Our cells require regeneration, and cayenne pepper is effective in that regard. It’s our best plug for cell renewal!

  1. Pain Relief and  Healing

The main substance in cayenne pepper, capsaicin, is effective in treating pain. Hence, those suffering from chronic headaches, toothaches, and other pains may try it with guidance from their medical doctors. It also heals wounds due to its ability to seal blood vessels. Research has shown that wounds even one centimetre deep can be cured by applying cayenne before bandaging.

Cayenne peppers can also heal haemorrhoids or piles. As a topical solution, Cayenne has traditionally been used to treat snake bites, rheumatism, sores, and lumbago, etc.

  1. Weight loss

For the obese and overweight, Cayenne works wonders by suppressing the urge to eat. It’s also good for healthy weight maintenance. Cayenne suppresses hunger, boosts metabolism, whilst balancing glucose levels.

  1. Cancer Prevention

Research has proven that capsaicin is a potent anticancer agent. It induces apoptosis in cancer cells and produces no significant damage to normal pancreatic cells.

  1. Healthy digestion

Cayenne promotes healthy digestion by stimulating the production of gastric juices, enzymes, and saliva. Capsaicin also relieves bloating. Cayenne may cause heartburn in some cases, so moderation is key. People with ulcers must also take care, though it heals stomach ulcers and wounds.

  1. Congestion relief

The heat-producing compound helps break up mucus in the lungs and sinuses, providing relief from cold and allergy symptoms.

  1. Anti-Oxidant

Beyond capsaicin, cayenne contains antioxidants like vitamin E, C, vitamin A, and carotenoids that combat oxidative stress and cellular damage. Cayenne, therefore, is anti-aging due to its more than 7 vitamins and minerals.

  1. Anti-Bacterial

Cayenne is an excellent preservative and has been used traditionally for the prevention of bacterial contamination in food.

  1. Allergen

Cayenne is anti-inflammatory, making it an effective relief for allergic reactions.

  1. Detoxification

For excellent detoxification, I would put my money on cayenne. It’s best when mixed with lemon and honey for that ultimate body cleansing experience.

Considerations

Excessive consumption of cayenne pepper may cause heartburn or digestive irritation. Topically, it may cause skin irritation in some individuals. Those on blood-thinning medication, like aspirin, must never take cayenne. All natural remedies must be taken after consultation with your doctor. Expectant mothers must NOT take cayenne or other alternative medicines without medical guidance.
