The Zimbabwe Football Association has announced the resignation of Marian Marinica as head coach of the Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team. In a statement released Monday, ZIFA confirmed that Marinica stepped down citing personal reasons, bringing an end to his tenure with the Zimbabwe national football team.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announces that Marian Marinica has resigned from his position as Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Team, citing personal reasons,” the association said. “ZIFA has accepted his resignation and thanks Coach Marinica for his contribution to the Warriors. The Association wishes him well in his future endeavours.”
Marinica’s departure comes at a crucial time for the national side, with preparations underway for upcoming international fixtures.
Following the resignation, ZIFA has moved swiftly to ensure continuity by appointing Kaitano Tembo as Interim Head Coach. Tembo, a former Warriors captain and experienced coach, will take charge of the team for the upcoming Unity Cup in the United Kingdom.
“He will lead the team for the upcoming Unity Cup assignment in the United Kingdom,” ZIFA confirmed.
To strengthen the technical bench, Takesure Chiragwi has been appointed assistant coach.
Chiragwi, who is currently the head coach of CAPS United, is expected to bring domestic league experience and tactical support to the interim setup.
The changes mark a transitional period for the Warriors as ZIFA is expected to begin the process of identifying a permanent head coach. Football analysts say the immediate focus will be on maintaining team stability and performance ahead of international competition.
“Continuity is key at this stage. The interim technical team will need to quickly settle and prepare the squad for competitive fixtures,” said a local football analyst.
With the Unity Cup approaching, attention now turns to how the new technical team will shape the squad and approach the tournament. Fans will be watching closely to see whether the leadership change impacts team performance, as Zimbabwe seeks to rebuild momentum on the international stage.
