ZESA said its technical teams were simultaneously investigating the cause of the outage and carrying out restoration work to stabilise the national grid.

"Our technical teams are currently investigating the cause of the outage. Simultaneously, restoration efforts are underway, and our engineers are working to restore grid stability and bring back power in the shortest possible time."

The utility said further updates would be issued as restoration efforts progressed.

"Further updates will be provided as restoration progresses.
"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused."

The outage affected homes, businesses and industries across Zimbabwe, with users on social media reporting widespread blackouts in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Gweru, Masvingo and other towns. ZESA had not immediately disclosed the nature of the technical fault or provided an estimated restoration time.
