HARARE – Warriors head coach Marian Marinica has officially moved to de-escalate a growing rift between the national team technical department and star midfielder Marshall Munetsi. On Thursday, 26 March 2026, Marinica confirmed he has requested a formal "sit-down" with the player to resolve the misunderstandings that led to his high-profile exclusion from recent international fixtures.

The friction began during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), held from December 2025 to January 2026. While the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) publicly cited injury as the reason for Munetsi's absence, the Wolverhampton Wanderers star, currently on a stellar loan spell at Paris FC, issued a sharp rebuttal, insisting he was fully fit and available. The discrepancy between the official ZIFA narrative and the player's medical status has fueled allegations of administrative interference.

Speaking during the current FIFA window, as the Warriors prepare for the Four Nations tournament in Botswana, Marinica took a conciliatory tone.

“In the spirit of clarity and unity, we have requested a meeting with Marshall so that we can sit down, speak openly and get to the bottom of any misunderstandings,” Marinica stated. “The most important thing is to keep the conversation positive and focused on what’s best for the player, team and nation.”

The technical explanation has done little to soothe Warriors fans, who have flooded social media with the hashtag #BringBackMarshall. Many supporters are convinced that Munetsi is being "blacklisted" by influential figures within ZIFA due to his vocal advocacy for player welfare and improved professional standards within the national camp.

For a business-minded observer, the exclusion of a player currently performing in a top-tier European league (Ligue 2/Ligue 1 periphery) represents a significant loss of "human capital" for the national team. Munetsi’s form at Paris FC has been a rare bright spot for Zimbabwean footballers abroad, making his absence from the Botswana tournament even more conspicuous.

Whether this meeting happens and whether it leads to a genuine reconciliation will likely define the Warriors’ qualifying campaign for the next major cycle. For Marinica, bringing Munetsi back into the fold is not just a tactical necessity; it is a vital step in restoring the credibility of the ZIFA technical office.
