Two Agriculture Ministry Officials Killed in Road Accident After Inter-Ministerial Games

Two officials from Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Development have died following a road traffic accident that occurred on Saturday morning as they travelled from inter-ministerial games held in Masvingo. The victims, Memory Rutsvara and Lovemore Mwavurudza, were travelling in a bus that reportedly veered off the road, resulting in the fatal crash.

Misheck Mugadza, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Manicaland Province, attended Rutsvara’s funeral service held at a Roman Catholic Church in Chikanga on Monday. Rutsvara, who served as an accountant for both Agritex and the Agriculture and Rural Development Authority (ARDA), was described as a committed and principled public servant.

“In Government, we value honesty, accountability, and hard work. The late Mrs Rutsvara embodied all these virtues,” Mugadza said. “She was dependable, focused, respectful, and selfless in the discharge of her responsibilities. Her contribution to the smooth administration of Government programmes in the agricultural sector will remain etched in our memories.”

Mugadza said Rutsvara’s death was not only a loss to her immediate family but also to the ministry, Mutare community, and the nation at large.

“We have lost a woman who understood the importance of service. We have lost a colleague whose work ethic inspired those around her,” he said. “We have lost a quiet but effective pillar in the machinery of Government.”

Rutsvara was scheduled to be buried later on Monday at Dangamvura Cemetery. Minister Mugadza is also expected to attend the funeral of Mwavurudza, which will be held in the Dora area on the outskirts of Mutare.

The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety in Zimbabwe, particularly involving long-distance travel. Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the crash. Investigations into the incident are expected to provide clarity on the circumstances that led to the bus veering off the road.
