Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has officially become a full member of the Roman Catholic Church's St Joseph's Guild after completing the Guild's final stage of formation during an investiture ceremony held in Harare on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
His admission into the Guild marks the culmination of a structured spiritual formation programme that requires members to undertake classes, participate in retreats and publicly commit themselves to the values of St Joseph, including service, family leadership, diligence, justice and the protection of family life.
To attain full membership of the St Joseph's Guild, candidates are required to complete formation classes, receive the Guild's official uniform and sash, and make a formal pledge to serve the Church while modelling the virtues associated with St Joseph. As part of the final stage of the programme, Vice President Chiwenga joined fellow parishioners for a three-day spiritual retreat before Sunday's investiture ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by members of his family, including his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, daughter Kudzai Chiwenga, and sons Gamuchirai Chiwenga, Tawanda Chiwenga, Kudakwashe Chiwenga and Takudzwa Chiwenga. During the service, the Vice President also participated in the offertory, reflecting one of the Guild's core principles of service within the Church.
Following the ceremony, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga paid tribute to her husband in a message shared on social media, describing the occasion as a significant milestone for the family.
"Today marked a huge milestone for us as a family with the head of our family becoming a full member of the Catholic Guild of St Joseph having initially served in the first two stages of the same," she wrote.
She said her husband had demonstrated unwavering commitment throughout the formation process.
"He is such a man of strong and firm convictions and believe me, this means the world to him and us as a family, and we are so proud of him."
Reflecting on the Guild's emphasis on service, she noted that the Vice President had participated in the offertory during the Mass.
"To cap it off and in the true spirit of St Joseph that is anchored in service, Dad had the pleasure to partake in the offertory."
She concluded by wishing him well on his continued journey of faith.
"My dearest and loving husband, here is to wish you a worthwhile journey in your life of faith anchored on the main values of St Joseph: just and righteous, diligence in work and service to your country, steadfast protector and chaste to your wife."
The St Joseph's Guild is a Roman Catholic lay association for men that promotes Christian leadership, responsible fatherhood, service to the Church and strong family values. Members undergo spiritual formation before being fully invested into the Guild, where they commit themselves to living according to the example of St Joseph, the foster father of Jesus.
