HARARE — The Government of Zimbabwe says it has repatriated 660 citizens from South Africa as part of ongoing efforts to assist nationals facing challenges abroad and those wishing to return home.
The announcement was made by government spokesperson Nick Mangwana, who said authorities remain committed to safeguarding the welfare of Zimbabweans living outside the country and providing support through diplomatic channels where necessary.
“The Government of Zimbabwe, like any administration that truly values its people, holds the safety and well-being of its nationals as a matter of deepest concern,” Mangwana said in a statement. “To date, we have been able to repatriate 660 of our citizens from South Africa, and we remain committed to supporting all those who wish to return home.”
Mangwana encouraged Zimbabweans in South Africa who require assistance, as well as members of the public aware of vulnerable citizens, to contact Zimbabwe's embassy and consular offices for support.
“If you or someone you know requires assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our embassy and consulates. We will leave no one behind,” he said.

The government did not specify the timeframe over which the 660 citizens were repatriated or the circumstances that led to their return.
The repatriation programme forms part of broader government efforts to provide assistance to Zimbabwean nationals living outside the country, particularly those facing legal, economic, humanitarian, or documentation challenges. Zimbabwe maintains diplomatic missions in South Africa that offer consular services, including emergency travel documentation, assistance during crises, and support for citizens seeking voluntary repatriation. Officials say the government continues to monitor the welfare of Zimbabweans living abroad and remains committed to providing assistance where possible.
South Africa remains home to one of the largest Zimbabwean diaspora communities, with many citizens residing there for employment, business, education, and family reasons. From time to time, the Zimbabwean government has coordinated repatriation exercises for citizens affected by changing immigration regulations, economic hardships, humanitarian emergencies, and other challenges. Authorities say the latest repatriation efforts demonstrate the government's commitment to ensuring that Zimbabweans who choose to return home can do so safely and with appropriate support.
The government has urged citizens requiring assistance to maintain contact with Zimbabwe's diplomatic missions and utilise available consular services when necessary. Officials say support mechanisms remain in place for nationals seeking guidance, documentation assistance, or voluntary return arrangements.
