ZIMRA Sets December Deadline for Unpaid Vehicle Taxes

By Southerton Business Times Reporter, Harare
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has given motorists with outstanding vehicle taxes until 31 December 2026 to settle their debts, warning that those who fail to comply could face recovery action.
The tax applies to motorists who purchased second-hand vehicles and are required to pay the applicable tax when transferring ownership. ZIMRA said affected motorists must clear all outstanding payments, including any penalties or late-payment charges, before the deadline.
Those who fail to settle their obligations may face action by the revenue authority to recover the money owed.
Unpaid taxes could affect motorists
Outstanding vehicle tax obligations could also create complications for motorists when renewing vehicle licences or making travel arrangements. Motorists who have bought second-hand vehicles are therefore being urged to check their tax records and ensure that all payments linked to ownership transfers have been settled.
The 31 December deadline gives affected vehicle owners a limited period to regularise their tax affairs and avoid possible enforcement measures. Motorists requiring clarification on their outstanding obligations are encouraged to contact ZIMRA through its official communication channels.
