The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has raided Yadah Hotel, a property linked to religious leader Walter Magaya, and allegedly recovered a large quantity of unregistered and unapproved medicines.
The hotel, represented in court by director Donald Makuvaza, appeared before Harare magistrate Lisa Mutendereki, where it pleaded guilty to charges of possessing unregistered and unapproved complementary medicines. The matter has been remanded to 10 March for plea recording.
Tip-off leads to police search
According to court papers, the incident dates back to 15 November 2025, when detectives from CID Headquarters in Harare reportedly received information that unregistered and unapproved complementary medicines were being stored in one of the hotel rooms.
Upon arrival, detectives identified themselves and conducted a search of the premises.
Police say they recovered substantial quantities of various medicines, including:
Metronidazole
Clotrimazole
Acyclovir topical cream
Fluconazole tablets
Cotrimoxazole pills
Miconazole nitrate vaginal cream
CoQ10 vascular care
Sodium bicarbonate injections
Stillen Aupatinil injections
Restorative lip balm
Authorities allege that none of the products were properly registered or approved.
Prescription forms discovered
Detectives also reportedly found Compounded Prescription Weekly forms, indicating that the medicines were intended for an individual identified as Happiness Mavindire. The State argues that Yadah Hotel had no legal authority to possess or store the unapproved complementary medicines and unregistered drugs, making the possession unlawful under Zimbabwean pharmaceutical regulations.
While the hotel has pleaded guilty to the charges, the case is still before the courts, with sentencing and further proceedings expected after the next remand date.
The development adds to ongoing scrutiny around the handling and distribution of medical products outside regulated pharmaceutical channels.
