FRANCISTOWN – In a significant move to professionalize the national team’s technical setup, former Warriors legend Esrom Nyandoro has reportedly been appointed Team Manager. While the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has yet to issue a formal press release, sources close to the normalization committee and reports from Soccer24 confirm that the "Yellow Man" has already begun his duties.

Nyandoro, who retired in 2015 after an iconic decade-long stint at South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, brings a wealth of administrative and scouting experience to the national fold. Since hanging up his boots, Nyandoro has remained deeply embedded in the "business of football," most recently serving as a scout for Kwekwe United.

His appointment is viewed as a strategic bridge between the players and the administration. Having played for local giants like AmaZulu Bulawayo and Zimbabwe Saints, Nyandoro possesses an intimate understanding of the domestic football landscape and the unique challenges faced by Zimbabwean athletes.

A central pillar of Nyandoro’s new mandate is a renewed focus on player welfare. The Warriors have historically been plagued by camp disputes over bonuses and travel logistics, which have often compromised on-field performance. By leveraging his experience at Sundowns, arguably Africa’s most professionally run club, Nyandoro aims to implement international-standard support systems. The goal is to create a high-performance environment where players can focus solely on the match, knowing that their administrative and logistical needs are met.

Nyandoro’s leadership will face its first immediate test this weekend at the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament in Botswana. The tournament, running from March 28 to 31, features a high-stakes regional lineup:

  • Semi-Final 1: Zimbabwe vs. Botswana

  • Semi-Final 2: Malawi vs. Zambia

  • Venue: Obed Itani Chilume Stadium, Francistown.

As the Warriors take to the pitch today, March 28, all eyes will be on the bench to see how Nyandoro’s presence stabilizes a squad that has recently faced selection controversies. If successful, this "new chapter" for Nyandoro could very well be the catalyst for the Warriors' future resurgence on the continent.
