Police Investigate Kariba Road Accident Linked to Dancehall Artist Malloti

KARIBA – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have launched investigations into a road traffic accident in Kariba involving dancehall musician Malloti, born Millicent Tsitsi Chimonyo, and her husband, Hulungende, after a pregnant woman was injured following a commotion at a live performance. Police say the incident occurred after disorder reportedly broke out during Malloti's show, with investigators now seeking to establish the sequence of events that led to both the disturbance and the subsequent road traffic accident.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that detectives are conducting a comprehensive investigation.

"Police are carrying out a comprehensive investigation linking a local musician to a road traffic accident in Kariba. The musician was reported to have clashed with revellers at a show leading to a commotion. One of the revellers, an expecting mother, was injured," Nyathi said.

According to preliminary police findings, the disturbance allegedly began after objects, including stones, were reportedly thrown toward the performer during the show, triggering panic among members of the audience.

Witnesses quoted by H-Metro alleged that spectators fled in different directions as chaos erupted at the venue. During the commotion, a pregnant woman is reported to have fallen onto the road as Malloti prepared to leave the venue. She was allegedly struck by a vehicle and was rushed to hospital, where she was admitted for treatment. Police have not disclosed the extent of the woman's injuries.

Commissioner Nyathi said preliminary investigations suggest that a white vehicle believed to have been driven by the musician may have been involved in the incident.

"The musician was later stopped while she was in Karoi in a blue vehicle. Investigations are continuing with a view to ascertain what actually transpired," he said.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or criminal charges in connection with the incident, emphasising that investigations remain ongoing.

Malloti, whose real name is Millicent Tsitsi Chimonyo, is known in Zimbabwe's dancehall scene for songs including Waponda Moyo. According to reports, she was performing alongside her husband, Hulungende, when the incident occurred. Police are expected to interview witnesses, event organisers and other individuals present at the venue as part of efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the disturbance and the subsequent accident.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have urged members of the public to refrain from speculation while investigations continue. Further details are expected to be released once detectives conclude their inquiries.
