SEKE – Two young people were found dead in separate locations in Ziko, Seke, following a night of violence that has left several other residents injured and sparked fear across the community. The incidents, which occurred on Monday night, have shocked residents of the usually quiet neighbourhood, with police now investigating whether the attacks are linked. Families are mourning the deaths while survivors continue to recover from injuries sustained under circumstances that remain unclear.
The first victim, Takudzwa Gumunyu (26), was reported missing after he failed to return home from work on Monday evening. Concerned relatives launched a search after he did not arrive home at his usual time. Their fears were confirmed when reports emerged that a body had been discovered in a bushy area within the community.
Speaking to reporters, Takudzwa's mother, Tarisai Gumunyu, said the family had expected him home around 7 pm.
"We heard rumours that there was a dead body in the bush. When we went there, police were already on the scene and were still trying to identify the person," she said.
Police later confirmed that the deceased was her son. Family members said the body had visible injuries, including wounds to the back of the head and a deep cut behind one ear.
As residents grappled with the first tragedy, another victim was discovered injured in nearby grassland during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Bridget Dzingirai was found lying helpless in the grass by resident Tinashe Matanda, who rushed to assist her. Matanda said he found her unable to walk or communicate properly and helped transport her home before alerting neighbours. Community members later contributed money to help her access medical treatment.
Dzingirai said she remembers very little about the incident.
"I only remember walking around 9pm. I saw a man behind me and another in front, and then I blacked out," she said.
She sustained injuries to her left hand and is recovering.
The tragedy deepened when residents later discovered the body of a 21-year-old woman identified as Panashe, a local hairdresser, in a grassy area near residential homes. The body was found by residents clearing vegetation close to their properties. Community members believe she had been walking home from work when the incident occurred. Police attended the scene and transported the body for a post-mortem examination.
A third victim, Isaac Nenyai, is receiving medical treatment after surviving an apparent attack on the same night. Nenyai said he was walking home carrying groceries when he encountered a suspicious individual.
"I was hit on the head and back and later found myself in the bush in the morning," he said.
His account has intensified fears that the incidents may be connected.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that post-mortem examinations will be conducted on both deceased victims. Authorities have not yet established whether the attacks were carried out by the same individual or group. However, residents believe the incidents may be linked due to their close proximity, timing, and similar circumstances.
The violence has left many residents afraid to move around at night, with growing calls for increased police patrols and improved security measures in the area. Community leaders have urged anyone with information that could assist investigations to come forward. As police continue their inquiries, families of the victims are seeking answers while residents hope authorities can quickly establish what happened during the deadly night that has shaken Ziko, Seke.
