Marshall Munetsi returning to the Zimbabwe national team for the Unity Cup.

HARARE — The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has officially unveiled the Warriors squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London, headlined by the significant return of midfielder Marshall Munetsi. The tournament, set to take place later this month, serves as a high-profile stage for Zimbabwe as they prepare to face continental rivals Nigeria in the semi-final.

Marshall Munetsi’s inclusion is the standout selection for Zimbabwean fans. The Paris FC midfielder returns to the national fold after missing several recent international fixtures, providing a massive boost to the squad's experience and physical presence.

He is joined by a strong contingent of Europe-based talent, including Jordan Zemura (Udinese), Tino Kadewere (Aris Thessaloniki), and the exciting Bill Antonio (KV Mechelen).

This marks the first squad selection under caretaker head coach Kaitano Tembo. The former SuperSport United and Richards Bay tactician took the reins following the recent resignation of Marian Marinica. Tembo's maiden roster shows a clear intent to blend established European stars with emerging talent from the domestic and South African leagues. The Unity Cup features a four-team format: Zimbabwe will battle Nigeria, while India and Jamaica face off in the other semi-final.

Full Warriors Squad:

  • Goalkeepers: Marley Tavaziva (Brentford), Future Sibanda (ZPC Kariba), Elvis Chipezeze (Magesi FC).

  • Defenders: Munashe Garananga (Hibernian FC), Corbin Mthunzi (Ipswich Town), Shane Maroodza (FK Sarajevo), Gerald Takwara (Al-Ittihad Misurata), Jordan Zemura (Udinese), Divine Lunga (Mamelodi Sundowns), Emmanuel Jalai (Durban City FC), Sean Fusire (Sheffield Wednesday).

  • Midfielders: Mongameli Tshuma (Highlanders FC), Marvelous Nakamba (Sheffield Wednesday), Aboubacar Moffat (Zimbabwe), Jonah Fabisch (Erzgebirge Aue), Marshall Munetsi (Paris FC), Tawanda Chirewa (Barnsley FC).

  • Forwards: Tawanda Maswanhise (Motherwell FC), Prince Dube (Young Africans SC), Junior Zindoga (TS Galaxy), Bill Antonio (KV Mechelen), Daniel Msendami (Orlando Pirates), Tino Kadewere (Aris Thessaloniki).

With Kaitano Tembo now at the helm, do you think this blend of European and African-based players is the right strategy to overcome a powerhouse like Nigeria?
