The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has rallied strong support from both public and private sector stakeholders through a fundraising golf tournament in Bulawayo, aimed at constructing a new high school in Umguza, Matabeleland North. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand access to education, with the proposed ZRP Umguza High School project targeted for completion by 2027.

The event drew participation from businesses and community partners, who contributed through donations and the auctioning of goods and services. Organisers confirmed that pledges included more than 40,000 bags of cement and over 35,000 bricks, a significant boost toward the construction of the school. ZRP Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba said the project reflects a long-term investment in national development:

“Education, by its nature, is life-changing. By building a school in Umguza, we will be investing in the future of our children.”

Private companies also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting education and infrastructure development. PPC Zimbabwe Managing Director Rawana Ndima highlighted the importance of partnerships:

“Education is pivotal in transforming lives. It is important for us as private entities to come on board and support such programmes.”

The Umguza high school construction project in Zimbabwe is expected to improve access to secondary education in the district, where communities often face long travel distances to existing schools. Education development expert Peter Kwasi Sarpong said infrastructure investment remains critical:

“Building more schools in underserved areas is key to improving enrolment and reducing inequality in education access.”

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has previously established several schools across the country, many of which have gained recognition for strong academic performance and consistently high pass rates. The new project continues that legacy, aligning with national goals to improve education infrastructure in Zimbabwe.

The ZRP Umguza High School fundraising initiative highlights the growing role of public-private partnerships in supporting social development projects. With substantial material pledges already secured, attention now turns to implementation, as stakeholders work toward completing the school by 2027 and expanding opportunities for learners in Matabeleland North.
