CHIMANIMANI — The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have launched an urgent nationwide manhunt for a 30-year-old man, Francis Makuma Magirayano, following a horrific shooting incident on Saturday, April 18, that left three people hospitalized. The shooting, which occurred at Kopa Business Centre, has sent shockwaves through the local community. Authorities have classified the incident as attempted murder, stemming from a domestic dispute that spiralled into violence.

According to police statements, the suspect allegedly opened fire on his wife, 26-year-old Mercyline Mahembe, during the heated confrontation. Mahembe sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her cheek, hand, and thigh. The violence did not stop there. The suspect’s sister-in-law was also struck in the leg during the encounter, and a local shopkeeper at Kopa Business Centre was caught in the crossfire. All three victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Chipinge, where medical staff are working to stabilize their conditions.

Police reports suggest that Magirayano, who is believed to have recently returned to the country from South Africa, fled the scene immediately following the shooting. Authorities have issued a specific alert regarding the suspect's vehicle, which he was driving at the time of the attack:

  • Vehicle: Silver Toyota Fortuner

  • Registration: JV 70 SM GP

The ZRP is treating the suspect as armed and dangerous and is urging members of the public to exercise extreme caution. They are calling on anyone who may have seen the suspect or the described vehicle to come forward immediately to assist with the investigation.

"We are appealing to anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts to contact the authorities," a police spokesperson urged.
