The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 28-year-old suspect in connection with the brutal murder of Brian Nandana in Warren Park D, Harare. Police confirmed that Shepherd Severa was taken into custody following investigations into the shocking killing, which has left residents in the Warren Park community shaken. Authorities described the matter as a high-priority murder investigation. Community members expressed fear and outrage over the violent nature of the crime, with many calling for stronger safety measures and swift justice.
According to police, investigators recovered a blood-stained Toyota Aqua at Warren Hills Cemetery on 19 May 2026 at approximately 4 a.m. The vehicle, bearing registration number AGO 2804, became a major breakthrough in the investigation after detectives allegedly discovered blood evidence inside the car.
Forensic experts reportedly collected samples from the vehicle for laboratory analysis as police intensified investigations in surrounding areas. Authorities believe the evidence gathered strongly connects the suspect to the crime scene. Police sources said surveillance and intelligence operations conducted after the discovery of the vehicle eventually led detectives to Severa.
Investigators allege that after his arrest, Severa confessed to killing Brian Nandana using a kitchen knife. Police say the suspect allegedly admitted to cutting the victim’s throat before burying the body in a shallow grave at Warren Hills Cemetery. Officers later recovered the body after being led to the scene by the suspect. According to preliminary police findings, the deceased sustained a deep cut to the neck and additional injuries to the head.
Authorities have not yet officially disclosed the motive behind the killing, although investigations remain ongoing. The murder has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many Zimbabweans expressing concern over rising violent crimes involving acquaintances and close associates. Crime analyst Victor Bhoroma said the case highlights growing concerns around violent crime and mental health challenges in communities.
“Cases involving extreme violence are increasingly traumatising communities and underline the need for stronger social support systems, policing and public awareness,” he said.
The ZRP urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified claims or graphic content related to the case. Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said investigations were still underway and more verified details would be released at the appropriate time.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police assures the public that comprehensive investigations are being conducted and justice will be pursued diligently,” police said.
Authorities also appealed to citizens with information related to the case to cooperate with investigators.
The killing of Brian Nandana has reignited debate over personal safety, violent crime, and security risks faced by transport operators and residents in Harare. Police say further updates will be released once investigations are completed.
