HARARE – Two men appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court today facing murder charges following the brutal killing of a driver employed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The suspects, Tawanda Ruzvudzo and Edmond Muzuva, were remanded in custody and advised to seek bail through the High Court.
The State’s case outlines a harrowing sequence of events that began on the evening of March 12, 2026. The deceased, Shingirayi Chikosha, was reportedly driving an official NPA-issued Kia Picanto when he stopped at the Whitehouse bus terminus at approximately 9:30 PM. The two suspects allegedly posed as legitimate passengers seeking transport to Norton. However, during the journey, the "passengers" turned on Chikosha, allegedly strangling him to death inside the vehicle.
The court heard that after the fatal assault, Ruzvudzo and Muzuva drove the vehicle to the Lake Chivero area. They allegedly dumped Chikosha’s body in a dense bush near the Gracelands Resort Centre before fleeing the scene. In addition to the vehicle, the suspects reportedly made off with the victim’s personal belongings.
The crime came to light following a swift investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). The stolen Kia Picanto was successfully tracked and recovered in Chegutu, which acted as a critical lead in apprehending the suspects.
Magistrate Ruth Moyo presided over the initial appearance. While the recovery of the state vehicle marks a significant milestone for the prosecution, investigations remain active to determine if the suspects are linked to other recent "pirate taxi" robberies along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.
