  • Two Harare Men Remanded for Murder of NPA Driver and Vehicle Theft

HARARE  – Two men appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court  today facing murder charges following the brutal killing of a driver employed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) . The suspects, Tawanda Ruzvudzo and Edmond Muzuva, were remanded in custody and advised to seek bail through the High Court. The State’s case outlines a harrowing sequence of events that began on the evening of March 12, 2026. The deceased, Shingirayi Chikosha, was reportedly driving an official NPA-issued Kia Picanto when he stopped at the Whitehouse bus terminus at approximately 9:30 PM. The two suspects allegedly posed as legitimate passengers seeking transport to Norton. However, during the journey, the "passengers" turned on Chikosha, allegedly strangling him to death inside the vehicle. The court heard that after the fatal assault, Ruzvudzo and Muzuva drove the vehicle to the Lake Chivero area. They allegedly dumped Chikosha’s body in a dense bush near the Gracelands Resort Centre before fleeing the scene. In addition to the vehicle, the suspects reportedly made off with the victim’s personal belongings. The crime came to light following a swift investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) . The stolen Kia Picanto was successfully tracked and recovered in Chegutu, which acted as a critical lead in apprehending the suspects. Magistrate Ruth Moyo presided over the initial appearance. While the recovery of the state vehicle marks a significant milestone for the prosecution, investigations remain active to determine if the suspects are linked to other recent "pirate taxi" robberies along the Harare-Bulawayo highway. • SECURITY ALERT: ZRP Denounces Viral Recruitment Hoax; Warns Public of Social Media Scams

HARARE  – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)  has issued an urgent disclaimer regarding a fraudulent recruitment notice circulating on social media platforms. The hoax, which falsely claimed that the police force had opened applications for new officers, has been dismissed as a malicious attempt to mislead the public. In a formal statement released this weekend, the police leadership urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and refrain from sharing unverified employment advertisements. The ZRP emphasized that all official recruitment drives are conducted through established, transparent channels. “The ZRP dismisses a false and misleading statement circulating on social media regarding the recruitment of police officers. Members of the public are advised to disregard the statement,” the police cautioned. The authorities further clarified that a formal notice for genuine recruitment will be issued through official state media and ZRP communication platforms at the "appropriate time." The rise of such hoaxes often precedes "recruitment fee" scams , where fraudsters solicit payments from desperate job seekers under the guise of processing fees or medical examinations. This incident follows a recent internal ZRP directive ordering the immediate removal of social media posts featuring officers in uniform, part of a broader effort to tighten digital discipline and prevent the misuse of the police brand. To protect the public from falling victim to employment fraud, the ZRP has provided direct lines for verification. Citizens are encouraged to contact the following desks before acting on any social media "opportunities": National Complaints Desk: (024) 2703631 Official WhatsApp Line: 0712 800 197 The ZRP’s move to nationwide body-worn cameras  and increased digital monitoring highlights a shift toward higher transparency, making it easier for the public to distinguish between official conduct and fraudulent activity. • Zimbabwe Diaspora Protests in UK Over Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3

Constitution of Zimbabwe Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom staged a protest over the weekend opposing the proposed Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill , which critics say could reshape the country’s electoral system and potentially extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure. The demonstration, dubbed the “March of Defiance,” was held at Witton Park in Blackburn on Saturday, drawing more than 70 participants despite cold and rainy conditions. Organisers said attendees travelled from across the UK and spent the night in nearby accommodation ahead of the protest, underscoring growing diaspora activism on Zimbabwe politics . The event was coordinated by activists including Phylis Melody Magejo, Dickson Chikwizo, Vengai Mutsawu, and Josephine Sipiwe Jenje-Mudimbu. Protesters carried placards and chanted slogans rejecting the proposed amendments, describing the gathering as a peaceful expression of democratic rights. “This is about standing in solidarity with Zimbabweans back home whose voices are being constrained,” one participant said. The Zimbabwe Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 has become a focal point of political debate, with critics arguing it could alter the electoral framework and influence presidential term limits. Supporters of the government, however, maintain that the reforms are part of broader institutional restructuring. Political analyst Eldred Masunungure said the controversy reflects deeper governance tensions: “Constitutional reforms often trigger strong reactions because they go to the heart of power, representation and democratic accountability.” Some participants said the protest aimed to amplify the voices of citizens allegedly facing restrictions for discussing constitutional reforms in Zimbabwe. There have also been unverified reports suggesting Zimbabwean authorities are monitoring diaspora activities, including logistics and funding of such demonstrations. Government-aligned sources have speculated about links between organisers and opposition groups abroad, claims organisers strongly deny. “This was a grassroots initiative funded by the community,” organisers said, rejecting allegations of coordinated political backing. The protest highlights the increasing role of Zimbabweans abroad in shaping discourse around governance and reform. Analyst Alex Magaisa noted that diaspora communities often play a critical role: “Diaspora engagement can influence international awareness and put pressure on governments, especially on constitutional and human rights issues.” As debate over the Zimbabwe constitutional amendment 2026  intensifies, activism is expanding beyond national borders, with diaspora groups emerging as a parallel voice in the country’s political landscape. Whether the protests will influence policy remains unclear, but they underscore the growing global dimension of Zimbabwe’s constitutional and governance debates. Zimbabwe diaspora protest UK

  • CONSTITUTIONAL WATCH: Mhondoro-Ngezi Endorses Amendment No. 3 as Opposition Councillor Defects to ZANU PF

Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka KADOMA  – The campaign for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 reached a significant milestone this weekend as ZANU-PF Mashonaland West  concluded a week-long grassroots sensitization program. The outreach culminated in the high-profile defection of an opposition leader and widespread community endorsements across the Mhondoro-Ngezi  district. In a move that has sent ripples through the provincial political landscape, Ward 6 Councillor for Mhondoro-Ngezi, Mr. Obrian Rwafa , publicly announced his departure from the opposition to join the ruling party. Rwafa cited a thorough review of the Bill’s provisions and a desire for "developmental stability" as the primary drivers for his decision. “I am leaving toxic opposition to follow the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa,” Rwafa stated. “The Bill is progressive and meant to safeguard national interests. That is why I have chosen to support it.” The provincial leadership, headed by Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, characterized the outreach as a success, claiming that communities are now "well-informed" ahead of the official parliamentary public consultations. The narrative being championed in the province focuses heavily on National Security and Economic Stability. Hon. Vangelis Haritatos, Deputy Minister of Lands and Agriculture, emphasized that the amendment is a logistical necessity for long-term project implementation. “This proposed Bill is meant to ensure political stability and give us ample time to implement development projects that benefit our people,” Haritatos noted, echoing the "continuity" theme central to the Vision 2030 framework. Residents attending the sessions in Mhondoro-Ngezi expressed satisfaction with the briefings: Letwin Chawira highlighted that the Bill speaks directly to "peace and stability," which she described as the foundation for local livelihoods. Biggie Chikowore noted strong youth support, viewing the amendment as a guarantee that current developmental programs will not be disrupted by electoral cycles. As the process moves to the formal Parliamentary Public Consultations, authorities have issued strict conduct guidelines to ensure the sessions remain focused on the legislative text. Members of the public are strictly prohibited from: Wearing party regalia or displaying political affiliation. Donning security uniforms or military-style clothing. Engaging in partisan disruptions during the testimony phase. Mhondoro-Ngezi Amendment 3 endorsement

  • Constitutional Watch: ZANU PF Matabeleland North Ignites Grassroots Drive for Amendment No. 3

Hon. Richard Moyo addressing a ZANU-PF provincial inter-district meeting in Matabeleland North LUPANE  – The ZANU PF Matabeleland North  provincial leadership has declared a "powerhouse of mobilization" as it ramps up a high-decibel campaign to secure public backing for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 . The drive, which explicitly includes the promotion of a presidential term extension, is being framed by the party as a "people-driven movement" rather than a mere parliamentary exercise. The campaign is being spearheaded by Hon. Richard Moyo, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, who also serves as the ZANU-PF Provincial Chairman. According to a statement from the provincial information department, the strategy involves a "precision" rollout targeting every household from rural outposts to urban growth points. "Under Cde Moyo's command, provincial structures have moved with precision and unity, ensuring that every household, every citizen, and every voice is brought into the fold," the statement read. The party argues that the proposed changes, specifically the adjustments to the presidential term and electoral systems, are "critical pillars" for national stability and the achievement of Vision 2030  goals. By labeling the Bill as the "people’s agenda," the provincial leadership is attempting to build a mandate of "conviction and pride" ahead of the legislative debates in Harare. Key Objectives of the Mobilization: Stability & Continuity: Highlighting the need for leadership consistency to oversee long-term developmental projects. Governance Efficiency: Championing reforms to the electoral system to streamline national administration. Grassroots Consolidation: Moving the debate out of the "august house" and into the communities to demonstrate widespread regional support. The aggressive tone of the statement claiming Matabeleland North is "leading from the front" is a significant political signal. Historically, the region has seen varied political leanings, but the current "wave of awareness" suggests a concerted effort by the ruling party to present a unified regional front in support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s extended tenure. While the party reports an "electrified" response, independent analysts suggest that the true test of this mobilization will be the upcoming public hearings, where the "unity" claimed by provincial structures will meet the broader scrutiny of the general public and civil society. • Three Killed in Norton–Murombedzi Road Crash as Police Arrest Suspect in Separate Hit-and-Run

Three people have died after being struck by a vehicle along the Norton–Murombedzi Road, in one of two fatal road incidents reported by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) over the weekend. According to ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi, the fatal crash occurred at around 7:30 pm on Saturday, 28 March 2026, at the 54km peg along the Norton–Murombedzi Road. Police said the victims were seated by the roadside when a motorist driving a Tata truck towards Murombedzi lost control of the vehicle. “The driver veered off the road to the left and struck the victims,” Nyathi said. Two people died instantly at the scene, while a third later succumbed to injuries at Father O’Hea Hospital. A fourth victim and the truck driver are currently receiving treatment at the same facility. In a separate incident, police have arrested Everson Masuka (48) in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred earlier on the same day in Harare. The crash happened at approximately 5:30 pm along Samora Machel Avenue, near the Showgrounds. Nyathi said Masuka, who was driving a Nissan Hardbody towards Chegutu, allegedly swerved to avoid a collision with a vehicle in front of him. “In the process, he struck a pedestrian who was walking along the roadside,” Nyathi said. The 45-year-old victim, whose name has not yet been released, died at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries and fractured legs. Police said the victim was dragged for about 20 metres. Masuka allegedly fled the scene after the incident but was later apprehended by authorities. The Zimbabwe road accident fatalities in 2026  have raised fresh concerns over road safety, particularly involving loss of vehicle control and hit-and-run cases. Traffic safety expert Gift Mugano said enforcement and driver behaviour remain critical: “Many accidents are preventable through adherence to speed limits and improved driver awareness, especially on busy and poorly lit roads.” The twin tragedies highlight ongoing risks on Zimbabwe’s roads, with police urging motorists to exercise caution and remain vigilant at all times. Authorities continue to investigate both incidents as part of broader efforts to reduce road traffic accidents in Zimbabwe. Norton Murombedzi crash

  • Parliament Launches Nationwide Public Hearings on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3

The Parliament of Zimbabwe The Parliament of Zimbabwe has deployed 11 teams across the country to conduct public hearings on the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment No. 3) Bill, 2026 , in a key phase of the country’s legislative process. The four-day exercise, running from 30 March to 2 April 2026, will cover all 64 districts, allowing citizens to directly contribute to proposed constitutional changes that could significantly reshape Zimbabwe’s governance and electoral system . Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda confirmed that preparations for the hearings had been finalised. “Everything is now in place for the hearings,” Chokuda said. He added that submissions are already being received both electronically and in hard copy at Parliament offices in Harare, with additional submission desks set up at hearing venues nationwide. The hearings form part of a broader 90-day consultation process that began on 17 February 2026 following the gazetting of the Bill. Political parties have begun mobilising citizens ahead of the consultations. Pupurai Togarepi, Chief Whip of ZANU PF, said ruling party legislators would encourage public participation. Meanwhile, Charles Moyo, Chief Whip of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), urged supporters to engage in the process: “This is a constitutional process citizens must go and air their views.” The Zimbabwe Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (2026) contains sweeping proposals that have sparked national debate. Key provisions include: Extending the presidential term from five to seven years Shifting presidential elections from a direct public vote to a parliamentary process Transferring voter registration and management of the voters’ roll from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to the Registrar-General’s Office Authorities say the changes could improve administrative efficiency, while critics argue they may alter democratic processes. Public hearings are a critical component of Zimbabwe’s legislative framework, allowing citizens, civil society organisations and stakeholders to present their views. Submissions gathered during the consultations will be compiled into a report for lawmakers’ consideration before the Bill is formally tabled in Parliament for debate. Constitutional law expert Lovemore Madhuku said public participation is essential: “These consultations are vital to ensure that constitutional reforms reflect the will of the people and uphold democratic principles.” The public hearings on the Zimbabwe Constitutional Amendment Bill 2026 are expected to draw significant public interest due to the far-reaching implications of the proposed changes. As consultations unfold nationwide, attention will focus on how citizen input shapes the final version of the Bill and what it could mean for Zimbabwe’s political future. • ZRP Mobilises Support for Umguza High School Project at Bulawayo Fundraising Golf Tournament

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has rallied strong support from both public and private sector stakeholders through a fundraising golf tournament in Bulawayo, aimed at constructing a new high school in Umguza, Matabeleland North. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand access to education, with the proposed ZRP Umguza High School project  targeted for completion by 2027. The event drew participation from businesses and community partners, who contributed through donations and the auctioning of goods and services. Organisers confirmed that pledges included more than 40,000 bags of cement and over 35,000 bricks, a significant boost toward the construction of the school. ZRP Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba said the project reflects a long-term investment in national development: “Education, by its nature, is life-changing. By building a school in Umguza, we will be investing in the future of our children.” Private companies also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting education and infrastructure development. PPC Zimbabwe Managing Director Rawana Ndima highlighted the importance of partnerships: “Education is pivotal in transforming lives. It is important for us as private entities to come on board and support such programmes.” The Umguza high school construction project in Zimbabwe is expected to improve access to secondary education in the district, where communities often face long travel distances to existing schools. Education development expert Peter Kwasi Sarpong said infrastructure investment remains critical: “Building more schools in underserved areas is key to improving enrolment and reducing inequality in education access.” The Zimbabwe Republic Police has previously established several schools across the country, many of which have gained recognition for strong academic performance and consistently high pass rates. The new project continues that legacy, aligning with national goals to improve education infrastructure in Zimbabwe. The ZRP Umguza High School fundraising initiative highlights the growing role of public-private partnerships in supporting social development projects. With substantial material pledges already secured, attention now turns to implementation, as stakeholders work toward completing the school by 2027 and expanding opportunities for learners in Matabeleland North. • FISCAL TRANSPARENCY: Parliament Divided Over Wicknell Chivayo’s “Unexplained Wealth” and Luxury Donations

Wicknell Chivayo posing with a fleet of luxury cars HARARE  – The philanthropic activities of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, characterized by a high-octane spree of luxury vehicle gifts and million-dollar cash handouts, have moved from social media spectacle to the floor of Parliament. Imbizo MP Corban Madzivanyika (CCC)  has formally challenged the government to investigate the source of Chivayo’s wealth, citing potential breaches of the Exchange Control Act  and anti-money laundering regulations. During a heated legislative session last week, Madzivanyika questioned how a single individual could consistently distribute multimillion-dollar gifts, including ambulances, fuel supplies, and a fleet of high-end vehicles for religious leaders and social influencers. "We have seen individuals holding millions of cash, distributing and making donations," Madzivanyika argued, questioning whether the Ministry of Home Affairs was actively probing the legality of these liquid holdings. The MP expressed concern that the scale of these transactions bypasses standard banking oversight, particularly given the US$10,000 daily withdrawal limits currently enforced by the central bank. In a coordinated response, senior government ministers distanced the executive from any immediate probe, maintaining that the possession of large sums of cash does not constitute an inherent offense. Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe  challenged the opposition to provide empirical evidence of criminality before demanding a police investigation. “The Hon. Member clearly stated that cash withdrawals have a limit of US$10,000. However, that does not translate to an offence if someone has more than US$10,000,” Kazembe stated. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube reinforced this technicality, noting that a citizen could legally accumulate large cash reserves through repeated daily withdrawals over 30 days without breaching current statutes. “There is no illegality,” Ncube concluded. The debate is inevitably colored by Chivayo’s past business dealings, most notably the stalled US$200 million Gwanda Solar Project. Despite receiving substantial advance payments from ZPC (Zimbabwe Power Company), the project saw years of litigation over uncompleted works, a point Madzivanyika subtly referenced as a basis for heightened scrutiny into the businessman’s current liquidity. While the "presumption of innocence" remains a cornerstone of Zimbabwean law, the Southerton Business Times  notes that in a "World Class City" by 2026, transparency in high-value private donations is essential for market confidence. If the Ministry of Finance maintains that such large-scale cash distributions are "normal," it raises questions about the efficacy of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)  in monitoring significant wealth movements. • ZIMRA Intercepts Undeclared Firearm at Plumtree Border Post

Plumtree border post, Zimbabwe, Botswana crossing point The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has intercepted a concealed and undeclared firearm at the Plumtree Border Post, in a development that has raised fresh concerns over weapon smuggling in Zimbabwe. In a statement issued on Saturday, 28 March 2026, ZIMRA said the firearm was discovered hidden inside a traveller’s suitcase during a routine customs inspection. Authorities said the interception highlights the role of border officials in maintaining national security. “This interception underscores the vigilance and professionalism of ZIMRA officers, who play a critical role in safeguarding our borders,” the authority said. “The team’s decisive action halted the illegal movement of the firearm, directly protecting communities and reinforcing the safety and security of civil society.” ZIMRA did not disclose details about the type of firearm, the identity of the suspect, or the intended destination. The incident has renewed attention on border control enforcement in Zimbabwe , particularly at key entry points such as Plumtree, which links Zimbabwe to regional trade routes. ZIMRA reminded travellers of their legal obligations: “All travellers are required to declare goods in their possession. Compliance is essential for lawful and efficient cross-border movement.” Failure to declare restricted or prohibited items can result in seizure, arrest, and prosecution under Zimbabwean law. Security analysts say the case reflects broader concerns about the illegal movement of firearms in Southern Africa , often linked to cross-border smuggling networks. Criminologist Clifford Shearing noted that porous borders can create vulnerabilities, “Effective border controls are essential in preventing the circulation of illegal weapons, which can contribute to rising crime rates.” Recent reports have pointed to an increase in gun-related incidents in parts of Zimbabwe, although authorities have not officially linked this case to any organised network. The ZIMRA firearm interception 2026 is likely to reinforce calls for tighter surveillance, improved detection technology, and stronger inter-agency cooperation at border posts. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to determine whether the case is an isolated incident or part of a broader smuggling operation. ZIMRA firearm interception 2026
